Founded in 1933 through the merger of Air Orient, Compagnie Générale Aéropostale, Société Générale de Transport Aérien (SGTA), Air Union and CIDNA (Compagnie Internationale de Navigation). Air France (also known as Compagnie Nationale Air France) coverred extensive routes through out Europe, but also to French colonies in northern Africa and others. During World War II, Air France moved its operations to Casablanca, Morocco. While in Morocco the airline was featured prominently in the film Casablanca. Today Air France has grown to transport over 43 million passengers a year, employing over 71,000 people and become the owner of Dutch airline KLM resulting in the creation of Air France-KLM and the largest airline company in the world in terms of operating revenue.

SkyTeam

Air France is a founding member of the SkyTeam airline alliance. SkyTeam began on 22 June 2000 by Aeromexico, Air France, Delta Air Lines and Korean Air. Since then other airlines such as CSA Czech Airlines, Alitalia, Continental, KLM and Northwest have also joined the alliance with more on their way to becoming members. There are also affiliated airlines such as Air Europa, Copa Airlines, Kenya Airways and Tarom. Aeroflot and China Southern Airlines have both signed an MOU taking the first step towards membership. In total there are 2,069 aircraft belonging to SkyTeam. Member airlines operate 15,207 daily flights to 684 destinations in 133 countries. By joining Flying Blue you can earn miles/points no matter which Sky Team Alliance airline you fly with. You can also redeem your points/miles on any Sky Team Alliance airline.
